It would seem that Marvel is taking a classic play out of the DC handbook… come on who doesn’t like it when apes attack!
From Marvel NYCC ‘08 - It’s a jungle out there.
Where’s “there,” exactly? Why, none other than the wittily warped world of MARVEL APES, of course! Marvel’s latest and greatest four-issue limited that, well—why don’t we let writer Karl Kesel (DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR) tell you in his own words?
“MARVEL APES is the sensational simian mini-series of the season!” reports Kesel. “It’s four issues of furry fury and feces-flingin’ fun! It’s all your favorite Marvel characters—as you’ve never seen them before! If you only buy one mini-series next October about intelligent, super-powered apes and monkeys – it must be MARVEL APES!”
Kesel’s artistic partner on this ape-tastic series is none other than the multi-talented Ramon Bachs, most recently familiar to Marvel fans for WORLD WAR HULK: FRONTLINE.
“You thought everything was already done and nothing new could be created,” questions the artist. “You were wrong!”

The architect and driving force behind the Oconocon is Joshua Goes.I have had the pleasure of knowing Josh for a year or two now.Recently I was able to get a few words out of him about the Oconocon, his life and how he uses his powers of geekdom for good!
Check out below for Josh’s interview, an insight into setting up a convention and monkeybread sweet deals on airline to and from comic conventions!
Last year at the Novi Motorcity Con, I had the pleasure of meeting Jay Fife. He quite possibly the most talented artist you’ve never heard of.
I’ll let his website’s blurb lay the groundwork… Jay is a proficient yet expedient portrait, pin-up, cover and fantasy illustrator based in the Upper Ohio Valley. Jay draws from a variety of influences including comics, horror and science fiction television and films. Jay is available for a variety of commissions at a very reasonable rate. You may contact him through this site to schedule a commision or portrait. You may contact him also for rates or a special estimate
I very recently got to see his newest sketchbook… WOW! Fantastic stuff! The best thing I can compare his detailed body and portrait work to is Greg Land or Greg Horn. Jay already has a huge grassroots online fanbase, and it seem like it is ready to explode. With the convention season upon us, there is a good chance you might be somewhere where Jay is… do yourself a big favor, go up say hi (on top of his talent, he’s actually quite pleasant too) and get one of his sketch books… a decade from now when everyone knows the art work of Jay Fife, you’ll be glad you did.
Jay’s con schedule

On Saturday, Feb 23rd, David Nakayama had a comic signing appearance at Kowabunga Comics. Most of you know that Kowabunga is my uber-favorite comic shop to begin with… but when you add a guy like David showing up, it became a geek Nirvana.
David was there talking about how he has just finished his run on Marvel Adventures: Hulk and will be doing work on Marvel Adventures: Fantastic Four. I was lucky enough to see some of the pages of the upcoming issues, and as always, David’s art looks incredible! He had also mentioned he has a project coming up that is in the mainstream Marvel Universe that will be pretty big… he didn’t give any more detail no matter how many times and different ways I asked So I don’t know what it is (and I hope they don’t suck him into the black hole that is all the X-books) but I am sure it will rock!
After you go to conventions and signings for several years, you get a sense of how creators and geek “celebrities” can be. Sometimes, they come across as just being interested in you handing them cash for their time and don’t seem to care about the fan base, perhaps even annoyed that you are there (*cough* Lou *cough*) and sometimes they come across as friendly and just as excited to meet you and you are them. David is one of the later group. I watched him do sketches for anyone who asked and answer every question given to him from all ages. He had elementary students asking him who his favorite characters, what books he reads… even what his favorite scene from the Spawn Movie was? David took it all in stride, no matter how the question was. He had the time and patience to talk to everyone who came through the door and really scored big points for Marvel Comics with the parents. With his mainstream work coming up, I hope David gets marked as one of their Young Guns for ‘08. Thank you for coming David and good luck with your upcoming books / projects! And everyone make sure to reserve your copy of his upcoming work in MA: Fantastic Four!
Here is David’s Myspace, Here is David’s page on Deviant Art.
Oconomowoc is home to The Oconocon, the biggest Midwest Comic Convention premiering this year… go on, check out the guest list… you will be impressed!
Check out Kowabunga Comics… the most family-friendly and awesome comic store around!
We at ThePullBox have day jobs and families, so we’re not able to all the big cons. But the fine people over at Aint It Cool News don’t have those issues. Oh sure they have plenty of other issues, but they do get to send people to every major comic con and film fest there is. That’s a nice perk. Anyway, Quint and his team have been rocking the Wonder Con coverage and I wanted to point our readers in that direction.
This weekend, with the opening of Wondercon, most of us who live in “Geek country” consider the Convention season to have begun. Hopefully, wherever you are at, you will be able to get to convention once this year and check out all of your favorite creators, see the fantastic costumes and be among your own kind In 2008, you will be able to see Thepullbox at the Motor City Con and Wizard World Chicago. Please let us know if you will be too!
