Happy Birthday Star Wars.

Posted in Movies on May 25th, 2007

Star War is 30!

I was not alive when Star Wars: A New Hope it theaters (born in 1978), so I missed the initial shock the nation had when George Lucas and his little epic space western was an overnight success. Instead I grew up in a world were it was common knowledge that Darth Vader was Luke’s father and it was okay if twins smooched on screen (as long as they didn’t know they were brother and sister). It wasn’t until I was an adult (which is still in dispute by some) that I realized what it must have been like to be chomping at the bit for years to get to the end of a story. This generation of kids has no idea what it’s like. Harry Potter is out in books before it hit the theaters and the Lord of the Rings series have been around longer than Star Wars. I’m not sure there will ever be anything like Star Wars again. When the alien archeologists dig us up in thousands of years, they will think the Star Wars was a major religion.

Now I don’t have the over-the-top emotional reaction that some people do over Star Wars, but do have a very nostalgic feeling towards the original trilogy. They are, and always will be, some of my favorites.

Addition: AICN reporter Merrick wrote a great little piece on what Star Wars has ment to people

Addition II:
Sweet Marry, Mother of God is my wife not going to like this one! One of the things I’m very happy Star Wars gave the world is the very HOT! metal slave girl bikini. Where would my adolescent fantasy’s be without Princess Leia? Boring…that’s where! So here is the very cute Olivia Munn, from G4’s Attack of the Show, as she is currently appearing at the Star Wars Celebration in LA. Wow I need my wife to get one of these ;-)

More on Frank Miller’s “The SPIRIT”

Posted in Movies on May 24th, 2007

Spirit

This says a lot about where comic properties have gone, commercially, that a video clip of Frank Miller talking about his upcoming film version of The Spirit is prominently displayed on the Hollywood Reporter’s Cannes coverage page. There’s not a whole lot in the interview that die-hards don’t know — Eisner invented comics, great influence, new technology, yadda yadda — but if you feel like seeing a nattily dressed Miller saying all that stuff again, by all means go for it.

And while Miller talkes about how the technology Robert Rodriguez brought to bear on Sin City has enabled him to tackle this project, there’s no word on the actual look of the film. The Sin City-esque promo image might be representative of the final look (which would be a travesty) or it might just be a good way to tie the existing Sin City fanbase to this film.

The most pertinent info actually isn’t in the interview: the name of the actor who will play The Spirit. We know Samuel L Jackson is in Miller’s mind as the villain, but it sounds like Miller doesn’t even know who he wants to play the title hero. “I’m hoping to be very pleasantly surprised…it might be a long search, but you’ll know him as The Spirit and he will be The Spirit.”

Thanks to CHUD for the info

The 501st

Posted in Con, Movies on May 21st, 2007

These people are crazy awesome! They are a group of Star Wars fan who have the extra time and money to make/buy authentic Star Wars costumes, and then go out and do charity work. Here is a quote from their website
“…The Legion is a volunteer club formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts and giving them a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion’s aims are to celebrate the Star Wars movies through the wearing of costumes, to promote the quality and improvement of costumes and props, and most importantly to contribute to the local community through charity and volunteer work…”

These guys were a ton of fun at the Con and the Hotel Pub. If there is a 501st Legion in your area, check them out.

Here are the pics of the fun we, and I hope they, had.

I, of course, thought Eric was being treated unfairly. I stuck my nose in and got tussled.

As you can see, these guys love what they do and they do it well. The 501st group that was there was from the Midwest Garrison: Michigan Squad. They were loads of fun. We will have our video interview up soon. To tide you over go to the Michigan Squad’s webpage and show them some love. Oh, and tell them Greg (Jotham_Knight) from HeroesTV.com sent you

Oh and one more thing! If you or someone special would like a Leia Slave Metal Bikini go here! It should fit all your metal bikini needs!

MotorCity Comic Con

Posted in TV, Comics, Movies on May 14th, 2007

It’s Con season again!
This is the first year that I will attend cons as a web reporter for HeroesTV and we’re hoping to expand our readership out into the larger geek culture. NBCs HEORES is still the bread and butter of the site, but diversity and variety will keep a site going. To accomplish this, I’m attending the two biggest comic conventions in the Midwest (MotorCity and Wizard World Chicago). I have hope if getting to San Diego, but rumors are that it’s getting too big to handle.
So tell your friends and neighbors to visits my blog, Strongbad’s blog, and HeroesTV for all the con updates and keep the comments coming.

New Terminator!

Posted in Movies, Uncategorized on May 10th, 2007

AICN has an article posted that gives the skinny on a Termanitor reboot. Basically the rights nad been bought by a capule of dudes who want to bring the franchise into the future, by about 30 years

The first of the new films ( actaully the 4th Terminator film) would be set in the near future with a 30-something John Conner leading his rebel forces aginst the superior armies of the machines. They’re looking for a summer of 09 release with a script built around a screen play by John Brancato and Michael Ferris.

So, in theory, TERMINATOR 4 (with a “new cast and plotline”) could be deployed as an alternate TERMINATOR 1, because even though it takes place after the events of the existing trilogy, it actually sets the existing trilogy/overall mythos into motion…and could therefore be used as a different kind of launching pad/origin story (i.e. “future war” escapades lead to time travel into their past (our present) to undo the situation in the future, and so forth. Theoretically, of course…

Terminator fans should also be excited with the Fox/Warner TV the SARA CONNER CHRONICLES coming to air next season.

The Beard Speaks!!

Posted in TV, Movies on May 9th, 2007

Over at Fox News they have an interview with George Lucas the covers Star Wars and Indy 4. He also takes time to through some pot shots at Spider-Man 3. Which is really funny because I walked out of Spider-Man 3 thinking it must have been a late 90’s early 00’s George Lucas film.

Wizard interview with Bruce

Posted in Comics, Movies on May 7th, 2007

Last week I got the soundtrack to Evil Dead: The Musical. Ever since then I’ve been on a bit of a Bruce Campbell kick. I was glad to see that he was the best part of Spider-Man 3
