New Knight at the Round Table

Posted in Personal on June 20th, 2007

You will be different, sometimes you’ll feel like an outcast, but you’ll never be alone. You will make my strength your own. You will see my life through your eyes, as your life will be seen through mine.

One day he’ll rule the world.

Dark Knight

Here’s the new Batman suit. Looks alot like suit from the Batman Begins (very tactical). Kinda looks like the belt may stand out more. Thoughts?

ADDITION!!
Here’s Batman’s new ride, the Bat-Pod!
Batpod

You can see the Bat-Pod in broad daylight in a Today Show video clip that has Meridith Vera saying it’s “hard to straddle”. We won’t go into what we’d like to see Meridith “straddle”

Mouse Heroes

Press Release

Archaia Studios Press and creator David Petersen were thrilled to see NPR select MOUSE GUARD: FALL 1152 for its “Summer Reads for Former Recess Rebels” book list. As one of the twelve books on the list, MOUSE GUARD got a bonus as an interior panel of a reclining grain merchant led off the column. A short excerpt from the book is also featured.

As part of the list, writer Glen Weldon offered a review, as well, calling MOUSE GUARD: FALL 1152 “Gorgeous, Sweeping, Inch-High Adventure” and “beautifully rendered.” The full article can be found here

David Petersen was also nominated for the 2007 Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award which is presented July 27 as part of Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony. The Manning award has been given out annually at the San Diego Comic-Con since 1982 and is given in the name of Russ Manning, the artist best known for his work on the Tarzan and Star Wars newspaper strips and the Magnus, Robot Fighter comic book. Past Manning winners have included Dave Stevens, Jan Duursema, Steve Rude, Scott McCloud, Art Adams, Eric Shanower, Dan Brereton, Jeff Smith, and Gene Ha.

“Wow,” was all David Petersen could utter. “I mean, wow.” Once his composure was regained he said, “The Russ Manning nomination already floored me…it’s such an honor. But then the NPR list? Just the sheer reach of NPR and my little mice getting such national exposure is terrific. And it’s even on the same list as Tolkien! Wow.”

The hardcover edition of MOUSE GUARD: FALL 1152 collects the first 6-issue MOUSE GUARD series and includes 12 pages of bonus material. In MOUSE GUARD: FALL 1152 we are introduced to the fearless guards Saxon, Kenzie, and Lieam, dispatched to find a missing merchant mouse that never arrived at his destination. In this fanciful, dangerous and medieval world, where mice struggle to live safely and prosper among all of the world’s harsh conditions and predators, Saxon, Kenzie, and Lieam stumble onto much more than they bargained for…intrigue, betrayal, and a deadly, traitorous plot to overthrow the stronghold of Lockhaven.

Archaia Studios Press’s MOUSE GUARD: FALL 1152 (ISBN 978-1-932386-57-8; $24.95; a 192-page, full-color, hardcover graphic novel) is recommended for ages 10 and up.

The way is should be

This is the way is should be. It doesn’t matter how rich your are or that you made an amateur porn, if you do a DWI you pay the price. I was wondering what it wold take before someone pulled their head out their ass and did the right thing. I’m glad that the judge in this case is considering holding the sheriff who let Paris out in contempt. That guy just gave a lot of cops a bad name. Lock Paris up, then give her lots of community service!

ELLIUM: Rise of the Fallen

Posted in Con, Comics on June 7th, 2007

When Eric and I got back from Novi, we stepped right into the end-of-the-school year craziness. We worked out tails off to post the con coverage that we did, but some things had to wait until time became for available. I’m sorry to the people that had to wait for reviews, but it could not be helped.

volume1-cover-a.jpg
So here is my review of ELLIUM: RISE OF THE FALLEN by Jason Moser, Matt Krizan, and Scott Licina of Asylum Ink. This is a graphic novel that they produced into a frame motion DVD (I think that is what it’s called). Basically, it works like a Hollywood story board film. We see the still frame artwork panned over in various ways, sometimes layered with other art, and there is an original score playing as you read the word balloons that pop up. The DVD itself contains four stories and some extras

The summery on the back cover reads:
“Prepare to enter a futuristic world of espionage secret societies and the occult. Where the true powers behind puppet governments are secrete factions, each vying for control of humanity with only the members of ELLIYUM to stand in there way!”

The secrete organization story is very well played here. The reader/watcher never really gets the whole story on who or what ELLIUM is. This made me want to get more of the story, which is whole point, right? The plots of the stories range from the realistic (Diamond Mine) to the fantastic (Blood Read Snow), but all have the X-Files feel with a horror edge. Now I’m not a fan or horror, but this book succeeds in not letting the “horror feel” overpower a good story.

I found the artwork to be a cleaner lined version of Ben Templesmith’s work in 30 Days of Night. It added to the story without be distracting and succeeds in creating the perfect setting for the story.

Check these guys out here and talk to your local comic shop about getting their stuff in.
